I perform approximately 300 surgeries per year.
Through intensive research and my clinical and surgical focus, I have subspecialized in congenital and acquired deformities, clubfoot, and limb lengthening.
In addition to my many years of clinical and surgical experience at the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics and Foot and Ankle Surgery at the Orthopedic Hospital Speising, I have expanded my know-how and skills at the renowned International Center für Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, and at the Ilizarov Centre in Kurgan, Russia.
Many complex multidimensional deformities are corrected with a modern software-controlled external fixation frame (Taylor spatial frame; Smith & Nephew, Memphis, Tennessee, USA). I have been training surgeons from different countries in using this technique since 2004. Additionally, I have been teaching the principles of deformity correction and limb lengthening at workshops and courses worldwide for many years.
Since 2013, I have been performing limb lengthening with the Precice limb lengthening nail (NuVasive, Inc., San Diego, California, USA). Because of the high number of cases I treat each year and because of my previous experience with lengthening nails, I have been involved in training and teaching Precice limb lengthening.
Foot deformities are another scientific and clinical focus of my specialization. As early as 1999, I was introduced to the Ponseti method by my mentor Dr. John Herzenberg in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. In 2002, after visiting Dr. Ponseti in Iowa, I introduced this technique at the Orthopedic Hospital Speising, which made us one of the first centers in Europe offering the Ponseti method.
Because of my extensive experience and the large number of patients who come to me from Austria and our neighboring countries for treatment, I offer vast expertise in clubfoot treatment.
Based on my research and experience, I serve as faculty and speaker at different pediatric orthopedic courses, workshops, and meetings every year.
I was appointed Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the Medical University of Vienna in 2012 and was appointed Associate Visiting Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China, in 2017.
In addition to my board certification for “Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery” I became board-certified in 2018 for the new specialty “Orthopedics and Traumatology” that was introduced in Austria in 2015.
In the doctors’ ranking presented by the business magazine Trend (published by Verlagsgruppe NEWS; Vienna, Austria), I was voted one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the country.
