Malalignment and limb-length\ndiscrepancy often lead to early functional limitations and subsequently to\ndiscomfort and pain caused by unbalanced loading and excessive wear and tear of\nthe joints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaligned (malunited)\nfractures and pseudarthrosis (non-united fractures) lead to pain and functional\nlimitation in daily activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In some cases,\nconservative measures can be used to achieve pain-free activity. In the case of\ncomplaints with a strong functional component, physical therapy can strengthen\nmuscle groups and stabilize the affected joints and functional units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surgical correction\nand realignment should be considered if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. conservative, nonsurgical, measures are not indicated or did not lead to improvement.<\/li>
  2. surgical correction can prevent further damage to the joints and thereby prevent future arthritis and pain.<\/li>
  3. the gait pattern and gait efficiency are severely impaired by malalignment or limb-length discrepancy.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Together we can define the optimum solution for correction of deformity<\/a>, limb shortening<\/a>, and malalignment<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For adult patients, I treat a specific and defined spectrum of conditions. I treat deformities, shortening, malunited fractures, and pseudarthrosis after fracture or infection<\/a> or after previous failed surgery of the lower limbs and foot and ankle. Additionally, I treat clubfoot deformities and subsequent problems after clubfoot in adults. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
