{"id":141,"date":"2019-07-24T20:05:44","date_gmt":"2019-07-24T18:05:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/radler-ortho.com\/?page_id=141"},"modified":"2020-06-25T12:52:17","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T10:52:17","slug":"fixateure-distraktor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/radler-ortho.com\/en\/orthopaedische-chirurgie\/fixateure-distraktor\/","title":{"rendered":"External Fixation and Lengthening Devices"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If a bone is broken as\na result of trauma or is cut during surgery for deformity correction or\nlengthening, it needs to be stabilized to allow it to become strong again.\nInternal devices such as plates, screws, and nails or external devices such as\nsimple or complex frames can be used to control and fix bone segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/radler-ortho.com\/en\/kinder\/fehlverheilte-frakturen\/\">fractures<\/a> and simple <a href=\"https:\/\/radler-ortho.com\/en\/erwachsene\/achskorrektur\/\">single-plane deformities<\/a> are often fixed with plates and screws, <a href=\"https:\/\/radler-ortho.com\/en\/kinder\/beinverlaengerung\/\">bone lengthening<\/a> is achieved with internal lengthening nails or external fixators. <a href=\"https:\/\/radler-ortho.com\/en\/kinder\/fehlverheilte-frakturen\/\">Pseudarthrosis<\/a> (non-united bones) resulting from poor bone quality or poor blood supply and\/or in the presence of infection can be well managed with external frames, even after multiple previous surgical attempts at healing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Complex deformities of the long bones and the foot (e.g., severe recurrent <a href=\"https:\/\/radler-ortho.com\/en\/erwachsene\/klumpfuss\/\">clubfoot<\/a>) can gently and gradually be corrected using software-guided six-axis external frames. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Unilateral Rail External Fixation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unilateral frames are attached to the side of the bone and are mostly used for simple deformities and\/or bone lengthening. They allow gradual correction in all planes of space and simultaneous bone lengthening. Complex software is used to calculate the settings of the rods and to create a prescription for daily adjustment of the frame. A small plate in a figure eight shape and two small screws, one above and one below the growth plate, are placed.
